Zimbabwe is one country adorned with a number of places where one can relax after a long working week. People do not have to travel for long distances, as there are a lot of activities to do within the country.
There are activities such as cruising, canoeing, and even horse riding in places such as Chengeta Lodge in Harare.
In Victoria Falls, there are many hotels in which people make weekend reservations. There is the great “Kingdom Hotel” which is centrally located for easy access to the shops, bank and food outlets.
The Kingdom Hotel is along the way to the falls. Other hotels include the Victoria Falls Hotel, Elephant Hills which is slightly out of town and A’ Zambezi. These places are all good for weekend getaways as they offer spas where one can get a massage, manicure and/or pedicure.
One can also visit the Victoria Falls for weekends as they get to do a number of stress relieving activities such as bungee jumping from the bridge, elephant rides, and visiting the Crocodile Farm.
One can also go out and enjoy the traditional dances performed there. Helicopter rides are also offered granting visitors a spectacular aerial view the great falls.
There are also many wild animals that can be found such as kudus and snakes. People can visit the falls during the months of May to July as the water levels will be very high and it will be very misty which is refreshing.
Another place that is suitable for weekends is the “City of Kings”, Bulawayo. This city has the largest museum in Zimbabwe and one can visit this place to learn more about the history of Zimbabwe and understand our origins.
Over the weekend in Bulawayo, one can also visit the Khami Ruins, a historical monument likened to the Great Zimbabwe, but smaller. The Matopo Hills also top up the places of interest that one can visit whilst they are in Bulawayo.
Get to see the mountainous area and appreciate the beauty of Zimbabwe. Cecil John Rhodes’ grave is also found in that area and it has drawn a number of tourists from different corners of the world.
Additionally, Bulawayo has a game park, Chipangali National Park, where one can get a feel of being one with nature and animals.
One other getaway spot is Mutare, where one can book in at the Leopard Rock Hotel. Its unique location renders it a peaceful and beautiful place to spend a weekend.
Additionally, one can travel as far as Nyanga to the Trout Beck Inn or Cecil Hotel. These two have a beautiful site of green vegetation and some falls, a pleasant change of environment especially when one is coming from the big city.
The Nyangombe Falls is also one place not to be missed when visiting Nyanga.
Just a few kilometres from Mutare, one can make reservations in Vumba and spend the weekend admiring the beautiful botanical gardens located there. The tall trees in the area create a beautiful scenery that has come to be described as the “tropical savannah” setting.
One cannot afford to miss spending a weekend at one of the lodges in Selous. The Pamuzinda Safari Lodge and Chengeta Lodge are two places that offer high- class services.
Bush walks and canoeing are activities that are included in the rates paid. Seasonal game drives, Pontoon trips and horse rides are also provided.
Excellent food is served and would be ideal for weekend getaways especially for someone residing in Harare without travelling a long distance.
