The Wind Farm Project in Egypt

Egypt has been focusing on renewable energy as a means of improving its economy and reducing its carbon footprint.

One of the notable projects in this area is the construction of wind farms. In this article, we will explore the wind farm projects in Egypt and their impact on the country’s economy.

The largest wind farm project in the Middle East is being built in Egypt with an investment of LE 5 billion, funded by the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy. The project is located in the Suez Bay and is expected to generate 2,000 MW of electricity.

The wind farm project is being constructed in two phases, with the first phase consisting of 120 turbines, which will generate 580 MW of electricity, and the second phase consisting of 180 turbines, which will generate 1,420 MW of electricity. This project is expected to create more than 7,000 job opportunities during the construction phase, with an additional 1,500 permanent jobs in the operational phase.

Another wind farm project that has recently been commissioned in Egypt is the West Bakr Wind project, consisting of 96 turbines installed by Siemens Gamesa.

The project will generate more than 1,000 GWh of renewable electricity annually, and it is expected to prevent more than 530,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions every year. The West Bakr Wind project has increased Egypt’s wind power capacity by 18%.

Another notable project in Egypt’s renewable energy sector is the Amunet Wind Farm, a 500 MW onshore wind power project planned in the Red Sea. The project is expected to be commissioned in 2023 and is currently in the permitting stage. Once completed, the project is expected to contribute significantly to Egypt’s renewable energy production and create numerous job opportunities in the area.

The development of wind farms in Egypt is expected to have a significant impact on the country’s economy.

Firstly, the projects are expected to create numerous job opportunities during the construction phase, providing employment for people in the areas where the wind farms are being constructed.

Additionally, these projects will help in the reduction of the country’s carbon footprint and contribute to the mitigation of climate change, which is becoming increasingly important on a global scale.
